Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels Saginaw

Acne, sun exposure, natural aging and other factors can disrupt the even skin tone and smoothness on our faces. Chemical peels—also called skin peels or derma peels—use specially-formulated solutions to remove the damaged outer layers of skin and reveal the smoother, younger look waiting beneath.

Chemical peels can be shallow or deep, intense or superficial. The general categories are:

  • “Light” chemical peels use alpha hydroxy acids (sometimes with beta hydroxy acids) to provide a surface exfoliation. You can come back for monthly touch-ups to maintain that healthier glow.
  • “Medium” chemical peels use trichloroacetic acid (sometimes with glycolic acid) to remove both the surface and upper-middle layers of skin to treat acne scars, deeper wrinkles and uneven skin color. After a medium chemical peel, your skin should look smoother and rejuvenated. Touch-ups can be done every 6 to 12 months.
  • “Deep” chemical peels using phenol are the most intense form of chemical peels. They can require pre-treatment steps, local anesthesia and recovery time, but the trade-off is dramatic results. These peels work down to the deep dermal layer of the skin to “turn back the clock” on severe wrinkling, sun damage, scarring and blotchy patches. The results of one deep chemical peel can last up to 10 years.
